Introduction
All documents available for download from this site are saved in Rich Text Format (RTF). This format can be read by most versions of most wordprocessors, including Microsoft Word and Wordperfect.

Note: The method for downloading and viewing the files is slightly different for Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator. With both programs, you can click on the link or right click on the link (press the right hand button of the mouse).

I am using: [ Internet Explorer | Netscape Navigator ]

Internet Explorer:

Click on the link with the left button of the mouse

Depending on how your program is set up, one of two things will happen:

  1. The document will open in the Internet Explorer program (actually, Microsoft Word is opening inside Internet Explorer!)

When this happens, you can read the document, but it is not saved on your computer. If you want to be able to read the document later, you must save it. To do this go to File/Save As. You will need to give the document a name (Internet Explorer automatically calls the document Document in Microsoft Internet Explorer, which is not particularly useful.)

Note: The document is saved in Rich Text Format. Please read the section Opening an RTF file in Word below for instructions on how to open the document again once you have left the web site.

Use the back button in Internet Explorer to go back to the web site.

  2. Internet Explorer will ask you if you want to open the file from its current location or save it to disk.

If you choose Open from current location, the document will download, your wordprocessor will then load and automatically open the document. If you close your wordprocessor, the file will not be saved. If you want to be able to read the file later, go to File/Save As and save the file.

Note: The file is saved in Rich Text Format. Please read the section Opening an RTF file in Wordfor instructions on how to open the document again once you have left the web site.

If you choose to save the document, you will be asked to select a place to save your document.

Click on the link with the right hand button of the mouse

  1. Move over the link (so that your mouse arrow turns into a pointing finger)
  2. Press the right hand button of the mouse (a menu will appear)
  3. Using the left hand button of the mouse, click on Save target as...
  4. You will then be asked to select a place to save your document.

Note: Once you have saved the file, you will need to load your wordprocessor and then open the document from where you saved it. Please read the section Opening an RTF file in Word for instructions on how to open the document.

Netscape Navigator:

Left click on the link. You will be asked if you want to open the file or save it to disk.

  1. If you choose Open it, the document will download, your wordprocessor will then load and automatically open the document. If you close your wordprocessor, the file will not be saved. If you want to be able to read the file later, go to File/Save As and save the file.

Note: The file is saved in Rich Text Format. Please read the section Opening an RTF file in Word for instructions on how to open the document again once you have left the web site.

  2. If you choose Save the document, you will be asked to select a place to save your document.

Opening an RTF file in Word:

If you have saved the document to a disk or hard drive, you will need to open the document in your wordprocessor. However, most wordprocessors are set up to only recognise their own kind of files, for example, Microsoft Word documents. To open an RTF file:

  1. Load your wordprocessor.
  2. Go to File/Open
  3. Under Files of type choose Rich Text Format
  4. You will now see the RTF files listed. Select the one you want and press Open.
