sexual harassment project![]() |
Violence against women and children, including sexual assault and harassment, has become a major concern to all South Africans. Street Law's sexual harassment project seeks to address these problems by mobilizing the youth to develop strategies to combat abuse, crime, violence and sexual assault in their schools and communities.
Based on the premise that our youth are our future, this project draws together its experience and partnerships to provide youth in schools with democracy, human rights and legal education directed at developing collective policy and abuse/violence prevention strategies, such as sexual harassment policies, as well as developing a more tolerant ethic towards women and children. This is being done in conjunction with all role-players in the school environment, i.e. students, learners, educators, SGBs, SMTs, RCLs, parents and principals.
Street Law believes that human rights and legal education is a necessary and crucial part of the fight against women and child abuse and sexual assault in schools and communities. Awareness of how the law protects human rights and how to access counseling, victim support and protection agencies, is also essential to curb the negative impact of violence against women and children. |
